Book review: Fluke

So I just finished reading Fluke, or I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings, by Christopher Moore, and I thought I should do a mini-review.
I really, really like this book. If you guys were more reader-types, I'd make you all read it. As it is, I plan to make my sister read it, because she'll LOVE it.
It's about a whale researcher and his exciting adventures. Okay, I know that doesn't sound very exciting, but I don't want to give away the plot. Suffice to say, if it sounds that boring and yet I really like it, it's probably less boring than it sounds.
The writing is really easy to get into and it's very fun to read. The characters actually talk like real people, which is a surprisingly hard thing to do while writing. And, well, it's funny. It's not a comedy book, but it's still very funny. I'd never read anything by this author before, but I love the way he writes and his sense of humor, so probably as soon as I finish this I'm going to get on the library website and order a couple more.
Also, Lyra? It has lesbians in it.
Anyway, if nothing else, it has a funny and very informative bit about saving the whales in the back. And not in a tree-hugging dirty-hippy way, either. He gives plenty of information, and ways to help save the whales, and ends with this:
'Barring that, just yell at people randomly to stop killing whales. It could catch on. Really.
("Would you like fries with that?"
"Shut up and stop killing whales!"
"Thank you. Drive through, please.")'
Which I fully intend to do from now on.
So yeah. If you have free time you should read this. Reading is good! I like books! Join my super-secret cabal of brainwashed readers and obey my every command! Er, I mean. You should read this book, because it is good and I really like it. :D
