I never write anything anymore, so [livejournal.com profile] nonartisan gave me prompts in return for the ones I gave her. I'll see if I can do one a day, though with work and all I might miss a day. And it's all just gonna be little snippets like this one. But at least I'll be writing something! So maybe I can get used to it again.

Prince of Tennis
Tezuka/Fuji
Prompt: cupcakes (mmm.)

When Tezuka found a cupcake on his desk before class one morning, he wasn't sure what to think.

It was a normal-looking cupcake. The icing was striped in Seigaku colors, which was a little odd, but otherwise it seemed perfectly safe. And it wasn't as if girls hadn't left sweets on his desk before.

The thing that made him nervous was the small note that the cupcake was holding down. On the paper was a drawing of Fuji, smiling and saying: 'It's good for your heart!' The little Fuji was surrounded by smaller drawings, mostly of heart shapes, with some actual anatomical hearts interspersed.

Tezuka was fairly certain that cupcakes were not actually good for his heart.

He ate it anyway, because otherwise he'd have to throw it away, and it was far too likely that someone would see it and the note in the trash and come to some awkward conclusions. Which, Tezuka knew, was probably the whole idea. It was easier to eat it than try to find a way to get rid of it, though.

It wasn't bad, surprisingly. It was a normal cupcake, not wasabi-flavored or horrible in any way. Actually, it was pretty good. This made Tezuka slightly more wary. He knew Fuji wasn't a cruel person, but he also knew that Fuji's idea of cruelty and a normal person's were not exactly the same.

But nothing strange happened to him all day. Tezuka had to admit to himself that he hadn't really thought that Fuji would poison him, it was just that when it came to Seigaku's supposed genius, it was better to be a little nervous sometimes. Apparently this time his caution had been unnecessary.

Later, at practice, Tezuka finally had a chance to ask Fuji what the cupcake had been doing on his desk. The answer was surprisingly simple.

"Well, last week you mentioned that you couldn't eat any of the lunches or sweets the girls gave you, because then they would think you liked them. So I thought you might want some sweets that you could eat without feeling guilty."

That, Tezuka thought to himself, was really rather thoughtful of Fuji.

Then Fuji smiled at him. "And you ate it, so you must like me." He leaned in and planted a kiss on Tezuka before the other boy even realized he was going to.

A nearby freshman gasped and stared in shock. Fuji winked at him. He turned pale and ran off.

Fuji ended up running fifty laps every day for the next week, but Tezuka walked home with him afterward each time.
