nearly belated...
Nov. 21st, 2006 11:24 pmI love it when I write things I really dislike and then post them anyway! It's rad. I promise the things I write people for Christmas won't suck. ♥ Probably!

Zabuza/Haku

30_kisses, theme #15: perfect blue
They were on their way to a meeting, another job, something. Haku wasn't thinking about it, didn't really care at the moment. They weren't there yet, and while he always had to be on his guard, at the moment it didn't matter. The sun was bright above them, the sky a brilliant blue that perfectly mirrored the water of the lake they were walking along the edge of. It was a perfect day. The birds sang, flitting from tree to tree, and Haku enjoyed the illusion of serenity.
It was in these moments between that he was happy. There was no doubt that Haku was good at what he did, but there was also no doubt that he enjoyed not doing it just as much. And these moments, where he didn't have to kill and could simply walk along next to Zabuza, were his favorite of all.
Sometimes he forgot it all and pretended that they were only two people, two friends walking together on such a fine day, enjoying each other's company. It was a fragile illusion and would never last, burst like a soap bubble before long, but that didn't stop Haku. Just because a dream was far from real didn't mean that it was worthless.
It was not that Haku particularly desired normality. He was happy enough just to be by Zabuza's side, he didn't need to live a normal life. But sometimes, sometimes the dream was pleasant. They could live out their lives, free of death and battle. Friends, or more. Haku didn't begrudge himself the occasional romantic daydream either - he knew his flights of fancy were only that. The thought of a kiss was far from reality.
He should be more alert, he knew. But for that moment, Zabuza was watching for both of them, and Haku could gaze at the lake and lose himself in his thoughts. He was silently thankful. Zabuza let him dream.
